Affideremo quindi i
cuccioli scottish solo a persone che conoscano bene le
particolarità di questa bellissima razza.

Riportiamo qui di
seguito le regole FIFE per gli Scottish.
Recommendations
regarding Scottish folds
Scottish fold shorthair/longhair—SCS/SCLnon
Breeding:
- a) Breeding SCS/SCL with folded ears X SCS/SCL with
folded ears is not recommended, i.e. SCS/SCL non X SCS/SCL
non is not recommended.
- b) It is not recommended to cross SCS/SCL with folded
ears X SCS/SCL with straight ears, i.e. SCS/SCLnon X SCS/SCLnon
71 is not recommended.
- c) SCS/SCL with folded ears shall be crossed with BRI in
every generation and every mating.
- d) SCS/SCL with folded ears shall have a health
certificate issued by a certified veterinarian, which states
that there are no spine problems or problems with the tail (f.e.
stiff tail).
- e) It is highly recommended to have SCS/SCL with folded
ears x-rayed before using them for breeding.
- f) In NO case are SCS/SCL with straight ears to be used
in the breeding programme of BRI. It is recommended to have
them as pets. It is—of course—also not recommended to use
SCS/SCL with folded ears in the breeding programme of BRI.
- g) It is strongly recommended to have the breeding
programme for SCS/SCL of every FIFe member supervised by the
JLO commission.
Motivation:
SCS/SCL with straight ears cannot be used for breeding with
SCS/SCL folded ears, because those cats with straight ears can
still carry the so called "crippling effect". Therefore it
cannot be assured that spine problems will be eliminated when
using SCS/SCL with straight ears for breeding.
There is no certified literature and studies, on which we can
rely, which can confirm that SCS/SCL with straight ears do not
carry the "crippling effect".
Studies and literature are mainly based on inspection of SCS/SCL
with folded ears. Field studies about breeding techniques and
breeding programs with SCS/SCL with straight ears have not been
made sufficiently for one to be able to draw reliable
conclusions.
To eliminate and to reduce spine problems in SCS/SCL with
folded ears they shall be outcrossed in every generation with
BRI.
Outcross with EUR is not recommended, because the ancestry of
the EUR is not always well known.
Special note:
This breeding programme was reviewed and made in co-operation
with Mrs. Lorraine Shelton, co-author of Genetics for cat
breeders and veterinarians, Robinson's 4th edition.
SCS/SCL is a breed for "experts", therefore it is recommended
to breed SCS/SCL under supervision of the JLO commission, who
will work here very closely with Dr. Susan Little, veterinarian
advisor in the Robert Winn Foundation, and Mrs. Lorraine Shelton
who has offered to make the necessary field study about the SCS/SCL
population, assuring us that the anonymity of the breeders will
be guaranteed.
Registration:
a) SCS/SCL with straight ears are in NO case to be registered
as BRI. They must be registered as SCS/SCL non 71.
b) SCS/SCL with straight ears are also not to be shown in the
Novice class in order to be recognized as BRI.
c) For the litters, which will in every generationbe the
result of cross breeding, it is recommended to have them
inspected by two Int. FIFe judges in co-operation with the
national breeding committee.
d) SCS/SCL with folded and with straight ears shall be
registered in the RIEx pedigree book, in every generation.
e) It is also recommended to send a report about that
inspection, mentioned in point c) to the JLO commission, and to
have the registration of SCS/SCL supervised by the JLO
commission.
